10/25 Meeting

These two meetings have been fairly short not too much advancement has been made. However, the cabin project is still going as planned. The 10/25 meeting was spent listening to half and full scale team second presentations on their progress so far. Once presentations were over, we brought in the finished print of our Prototype 1 design and let the other 1/12 scale teams examine it. Unfortunately the bogey and controls team did not have their parts in and could not give us dimensions to allow us to begin Prototype 2. On the bright side it did those teams an idea on how they plan to orient their parts within the cabin. The following picture displays the finished Prototype 1:

10/18 Meeting

This meeting was spent having all 1/12 scale teams. This presentation covered topics mentioned in the previous blog post. In summary this presentation provided the CAD model of Prototype 1. Prototype 1 was meant to serve as a place holder with dimensions larger than needed to let the 1/12 scale teams room to figure out how they want to configure the internal parts of the cabin. Then more accurate dimensions will be made for prototype 2. Prototype 2 will incorporate alternatives covered in the presentation. Before printing is made, the better of the two alternative models for prototype 2 will chosen based on aerodynamic analysis in solidworks.

Future steps are covered in the Gantt chart and timely progression of it is dependent on the fellow 1/12th scale teams to get their parts fitted in the cabin and a 3D printing source. Contingency plans include estimating dimensions, finding new 3D printing sources, and helping 1/12 scale teams if needed.

10/11 Meeting

This meeting was fairly short as an hour+ meeting was held in engineering building regarding final group project reports. Once at the Superway garage, reminders and rubric for presentation 2 was given out. Project progress along with the following topics are to be covered:

  1. Project and Problem Introduction
  2. Initial Designs / Comparisons of Alternatives
  3. Theoretical Analysis
  4. Project Schedule and Deliverables
  5. Dependencies and Contingencies
The finished presentation and its information will be discussed and posted by 10/18th. The rest of this meeting period was spent on topics to be covered on the presentation, further CAD modeling, and 3D printing options.

10/4 Meeting

For this week the cabin design team was able to get the first CAD model finished. Plans have been changed as regards to the first prototype model. The first model will be first be a general test prototype mostly to help the other 1/12 scale bogie and controls teams figure out how they want layout their internal components. It'll make it easier to design as it will save time on 3D modeling once precise measurements are met. Once function is complete, the cabin's aesthetics will be worked on the 2nd or 3rd prototype and eventually the final design.
